K-Gr 2--Readers are immediately thrown into the world of boy and girl superheroes and all the incredible things they do. Superheroes do anything that needs to be done to make everyone safe in their communities. Sometimes it is not a pretty job, especially when one lands in a garbage can filled with nasty things or gets doused with bad guy goo. But they do get to wear all kinds of fun disguises to hide their true identities. It's a dangerous job, but somebody has to do it. However, it's not all fame and glory. Superheroes have to take care of themselves so they are ready when help is needed: They need to eat dinner, brush teeth, take a bath, and read a book. Every child is super in some way, but they are also kids who need to live a healthy life. This is a fun book with a great conceit, upending the notion that being a superhero has to involve supernatural powers. It's a profound message, particularly potent in 2020, that every child is a superhero. VERDICT This is a very different and surprising title for the superheroes in your school or library.--Joan Kindig, James Madison Univ., Harrisonburg, VA
